Finally, and most importantly Black Dog Crossfit posts pictures of workouts on their social media page. When an incident that involved a member commenting inappropriately on social media about another. Black Dog ownership was informed about the situation, but proceeded to do nothing and brushed off the issue.
Black dog owner, run by Darren Marks, simply cannot open on time and is consistently late anywhere form thirty minutes to an hour daily. The hours say on the Black Dog Crossfit website that the gym will be open daily (besides Sunday) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., this is not the case. Majority of the time they either open late or close early without giving proper warning. In some cases they do not let people into the gym, because it is “disorganized.” Black Dog has a cleaning team, but they cannot keep up because the space is either to large or there isn’t enough personnel. Ultimately it is Black Dog Crossfit ownership saying that some members can come workout at the gym while other members are not allowed. I do not understand why some gym members cannot workout when they have paid for the month and other members can.
I would highly recommend not giving this business your money, but if you decide to you have been warned.
Additionally, if you have never done crossfit you are forced to take the level one class, which is great! When you are complete you are expected to be able to perform crossfit lifts or Olympic weightlifting. The individuals that come out of this training are not trained and are in danger of hurting themselves. Instead it is another way for Black Dog to charge over $200.00 for a six week program that doesn’t work.
Other discrepancies that are found at the gym is random customers have keys to the gym, there is profanity written on the outside and inside of the gym. The gym recently installed a wheelchair ramp after one of the customers asked for one to be installed. After Black Dog ownership ignored the comment, the gym members donated money to get a handicap ramp built.
If you are a cross fitter he will attempt to charge you $155.00 a month without explaining all the programs that are offered at Black Dog. The programs are hard to find because the website and the sales pitch do not accurately depict what the company has to offer. Only way to actually find out what the different rates and options are is to ask people individually. An example of this is when you “drop in” for a class and it is supposed to be free (in accordance with the Black Dog Crossfit website), but they still attempt to charge you $20.00 just to test the gym out. There is also no childcare offered and kids run freely throughout a workout with members throwing weights around. This is acceptable to Black Dog ownership because they claims the gym is “kid friendly.”
Black dog has changed a lot in the last 4 years and not for the better Krys is the only positivity and shining light on this place. Black dog turned from an awesome community to start with then fizzled into a selfish all about Darren attitude. The prices increased to Los Angeles pricing with zero of the customer service or amenities you would find for the price. Showerless. No hot water. No towels, etc. he has slowly ate away at his loyal customers and drove them out. A lot of dirty laundry to air here and not of the you can throw it in the washer kind. The gym is clearly delineated into two sections. Krys' side and then the crossfit side. I have watched countless people lifting poorly without direction or proper technique taught to them by their coach but hey as long as Darren makes money.
Worst gym....EVER. Been to plenty of gyms around the country and this gym by far is the most unprofessional and biggest scam! I will never recommend any one to join this terrible gym. I was warned by several people not to join anyways, and I should have listened to them. Their price is way too high when the gym closes randomly without notice and does not open on time regularly. The owner and his wife are constantly rude to their customers but Krys was great to work with and its a shame that the gym is bringing him down. He was the only reason I stayed. Please heed this warning and do not waste your time like I did.
Krys is an awesome coach and is willing to help anyone with their form coaching nutrition or just someone to talk to he is a great guy. He tailors to you and really cares about your success in the gym he is invested in you unlike some others are just invested into making money at this location.
You will get your A$$ handed to you!

Being an extremely expensive gym, the equipment is worn and torn, the roof is leaking, and live wires are exposed. There is no excuse for this because the space rents for $6,000 dollars and is only costing Black Dog Crossfit $2,000 a month. Where is the money going? I cannot answer that, but I can say that the gym doesn’t pay their coaches, which ultimately leads to no W2’s. Some of the coaches have the level one crossfit certification, but the assistant coaches that help out do not have any certification. This is also the same when they offer nutritional support, none of the employees have nutritional backgrounds or certifications, but still coach.
One of my favorite places to be. The coaches and members are just all-around good people.
