They also rent the home out for weddings, photo shoots, receptions, dinner parties, etc. I highly recommend it if you like touring historical homes and learning of old state history.
What an interesting lady Mattie Beal was at the age of 21 to come to Lawton as a single lady looking for land and entering a lottery and being lucky to be drawn second out of 50,000 people! She had many marriage proposals since she became suddenly wealthy upon claiming 160 acres of prime land and her and her husband built this gorgeous home.
Great experience
Excellent
Just had fun.
Spent a wonderful hour here with docents (guides) Emma and Phyllis and as we were the only ones we had plenty of time to ask lots of questions and get the complete history of the house and its owners. Our main guide Emma was very knowledgeable and both ladies were a delight to speak with and willingly shared.
closed for the month of January; school programming open
This is a great way to spend an afternoon (only open from noon to 3pm Thursday through Sunday) at a cost of $4 per adult to see how a high-society family lived at the beginning of our state in 1907.
